About KUB Kuwahee Wastewater Treatment Plant

This project included the demolition of an existing parking deck and construction of a new parking deck suspended over the clarifiers at the Kuwahee Wastewater Treatment Plant for the Knoxville Utilities Board. Once the existing deck was removed, precast planks were placed as support for the new parking structure. Then, Southern Constructors poured a special concrete overlay with many complex grade breaks to ensure proper drainage from the structure and to avoid any ponding of water on the parking surface. In addition to the parking structure, SCI made structural repairs to the clarifier walls and support columns. SCI also replaced all the equipment within the clarifiers, including new flights and chains, scum pipes, and weirs. This equipment removes sludge from the tanks and is a pivotal part of the water treatment process.
