About the Cocke County Bridge

This bridge replacement project was conducted in Cosby, TN, on Old State Hwy 32. The existing bridge Over Cosby Creek was a steel beam bridge with a concrete riding surface. Once the existing bridge was removed, a 120-foot-long concrete box beam bridge was built with concrete abutments, concrete riding surface, and parapet railing. The new beams weighed 25 tons each with a crane reach radius of 105 feet, requiring a 500-ton crane. The bridge deck was poured using a pump truck and screed system, providing a smooth riding surface for the motoring public. This was a challenging project due to the existing utilities near the bridge and the mountain stream diversion that was required to give us access to build the new concrete abutments.
