About Cumberland Avenue

This project introduced vast improvements along the Cumberland Avenue Corridor from Alcoa Highway to 16th Street, all while keeping businesses open and traffic flowing safely through the work zone. The work included reducing the existing four-lane roadway to a two-lane corridor with a designated median and turn lanes, as well as replacement and upgrades of all water, sewer, stormwater, gas, and electrical utilities. All utilities were placed underground, and new traffic and pedestrian signals, street lighting, wider sidewalks, crosswalks, asphalt pavement, trees with bio-retention wells, landscaping and site furniture were installed. Colored concrete and pavers were used to create an aesthetically welcoming area for pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic.
